Good morning all,
       First, I am long overdue to thank everyone for their help with my
query on brick paver manufacturing and road construction in Indiana.
Your suggestions and links were very helpful and introduced me to many
wonderful reference guides on the Internet.

      Now, I have a new question. We had an accidental discovery in
Wayne County, Indiana along US 40. It appears to be a brick cistern that
locals remember being used as an old "fire well" or a precursor to a
fire hydrant system. Does anyone know of a good general reference about
historic fire fighting or fire hydrants? It doesn't have to be specific
to Indiana.
