The book describes excavations at the house of a Chinese gardener. THe site date
s from the late 1890s to early 1900s. The Chinese gardeners raised crops along t
he Santa Cruz River and peddled them door-to-door to Tucson families and restaur
ants. THere were only about 34 gardeners in 1900 and none of their houses had be
en excavated. Research into newspapers and other documents supplements data in L
ister and Lister's book "The Chinese of Early Tucson."
