Hi Brian,
Angel Island in San Francisco Bay was used to hold POW's during WWII. I know
that both german and Italians were held there but I will have to check to
see if Germans were also. The old immigration station at North Garrison was
close down around 1941 and converted for use as a POW camp. Many of the
structures are still standing and I believe one of the original guard towers
is still standing. You might check the history of this use of the island
with the Angel Island Interpretive Association, on the island.
Good luck with this.
