I had the joy of hearing Ms. Davies talk about her book and how the movie
was made. She worked very closely with the costume designer and props people.
The movie "Guns for San Sebastian" is very good for showing leatherjacket
soldiers (Spanish Colonial period).
On the other hand, "Seven Cities of Gold" is terrible! The movie is about
the founding of California, and gets just about everything wrong. It had
Anthony Quinn as Portola, Michael Renee (The Day the Earth Stood Still) as
Father Serra, and Jeffery Hunter as an Indian (!!).
The funniest part is when the soldiers arrive, all wearing conquistador
morions! They are about 200 years out of date.
