I have always loved Respighi's Ancient Aires and Dances, especially the
old Dorati version. In the mid-seventies, lacking a recording I tried
to fill the gap on the cheap with a version by (I think) Carlo Savina
on Everest. The sound was mono and so horrible and pinched-- like it
was taken from badly worn '78s-- that I was literally nauseated and
could not listen to the piece again for several years.
