Along with the new "Ed Harris as Ludwig" movie that Janos Gereben kindly
brings to the List's attention, there is also some news in the film ether
regarding a future production about our favorite Red Priest, Antonio
Vivaldi. The film's promoters and director are hoping for no less than
a release that rivals "Amadeus" in its impact on the moviegoing public
with regard to a story centered around a major classical composer.

In this case, the movie will emphasize the story of Vivaldi's earlier
years, dealing with his asthma and his inner conflicts with regard to
the priesthood. This conflict between his sensual nature and his priestly
vows becomes personified around a relationship with a young lady who is
a student at the Pio Ospedale della Pieta orphanage in Venice, where
Vivaldi is the music director.

The film won't begin production until next April, but main characters
have been cast, including Joseph Fiennes ("Shakespeare in Love") as
Vivaldi. Others include Jacqueline Bisset, Malcolm McDowell in the
Inevitable Heavy part, and Gerard Depardieu, who contrary to rumor will
NOT be reprising his earlier role as Vivaldi's erstwhile drinking buddy
Marin Marais.

A slightly less snarky newsclip about the film's planning is available
at the Guardian's website:
