I don't know about sheet music, but when I visit another city I don't
seek out the local HMV, Virgin, or any other mainstream CD shop. As a
confirmed music obsessive, I itch instead to find the best local 2nd-hand
CD stores.

Retail outlets in London, Montreal, Barcelona and, say, at Schiphol
airport, always let me down: they seldom have any CDs that I can't find
in the big shop where I live, in Ottawa. But what's on the shelves in
used CD shops is another matter. Their stock may not be comprehensive,
but I invariably get the welcome surprise of something I'd been looking
for that's obscure or out of print.

The pricing's better, too.
