Sampled a few of the Bach harpsichord sets in my library this morning - I
found Gilbert and Tilney (both WTC) and wasn't too impressed, but I also
heard Trevor Pinnock playing a few movements from the Partitas and to my
ears that was another story. I need to listen more closely, but so far I
like the man's style: he has a good sense of rhythm and like Landowska, he
can make the harpsichord sing or rather speak - his phrasing is imaginative
and he has a proper legato, whereas I found both Gilbert and Tilney (only
heard him on the clavichord, though) a bit lumpy. But I'll continue to
look out for Gilbert's Art of Fugue and might yet change my mind about him.
Couldn't find any of the other people mentioned, unfortunately.
