Washington Musica Viva and John Kamman Present
EVOLUTIONS!
American Chamber Music meets Jazz

Saturday Jan 24, 7:30 PM
St. Columba's Church
4201 Albermarle St. NW
Washington, DC

Composer/Guitarist John Kamman and pianist Carl Banner present EVOLUTIONS,
a three concert series that explores and gradually brings together
American chamber music and jazz. Beginning with performances by WMV and
the Afro Jazz Explosion, culminating with a major chamber jazz work by
John Kamman, EVOLUTIONS extends the vocabulary of these quintessentially
American sounds into exiting new territory.

Elements - Jan 24 -- WMV and the Afro Jazz Explosion introduce the
elements: contemporary chamber music and improvisation on jazz standards.

Performers: Rhonda Buckley, alto saxophone, John Hughes, violin, Jodi
Beder, cello, Mark Stephenson, bass, Carl Banner, piano, with the
Afro-Jazz Explosion.

Program includes:
Ervin Schulhoff's "Hot Sonate": a steamy dixieland episode in Prague.
Walter S. Hartley's "Dance Suite": a hilarious remix of polkas and Chopin.
Libby Larsen's "Four on the Floor": Boogie-woogie and Jerry Lee Lewis.
John Harbison's "San Antonio": New England reserve encounters Mexican
fiesta rhythms.
