Thanks to all who replied concerning Muti.  Sounds like some hits and
misses.  As to the comment about his time in Philadelphia...a friend of
mine is friends with a long time member of that orchestra.  He is supposed
to have said that Muti ruined the sound.  I had also heard that Muti was
Ormandy's choice for the job...

What I do find interesting in this particular move has been some of the
comments in the press which refer to the lack of big name conductors.
It has left me wondering to what extent activity as a recording artist
influences the visibility of a musican these days, especially with the
diminishing opportunties to record.
