Well about so many opinions on the painful "Ozawa theme", one who made
think a lot about the up to day "real" value of artists, was that of
"musical mediocritys" of Baremboim,Mutti and Ozawa. In these days is
difficult to say in the very "objetive" sense of the word who is
mediocre, who is a "great" artist, etc. The scale of value of things in
these days is weak. In the past time, most of the FAMOUS artists were
GREAT artists. Today (i think) is the whole contrary thing. Great names
many times are built,on the convenience of managers, and other different
extra-musical aproaches. It is very easy to see many people of Real
Superlative talent teaching in after school activities,in some small
school,in some small town. And is too, very easy to see many mediocre people
in the great concert scene. This happen very often with conductors. Why with
conductors? because in these days the "modern" conductors school, has a new
"mode" about the baton technique and many other things which they thing in
these days are not neccesary to do (at least a pianist must have "good
fingers" to make a career).Do you really "understand" many of the modern
conductors what they do with their movements? And what they do moving both
hands all the time with exactly the same movements in contrary motion?.
But the people justify them saying: They don't need to move theirs
hands, they can "conduct with the eyes" if they want. But the worst: Some
people believe it.

In these days many conducting careers were built upon mediocre people
who has the enough amount of audacy to go to the podium, and instead of
"conducting" spend a lot of time telling to the instrumentists of the
orchestra his(her) genial point of view about some work, with some amount
of philosophy +a little bit of yoga principles+an advice on an special
"diet" good for orchestra players.etc.etc.

I thing is time to come back to the world of
Walter,Nikish,Reiner,Beecham,Furtwaengler,Szell,Furtwaengler,
Weingardtner=,Toscanini(even if i don't like him,but was great),etc.etc.
In these days are still alive great conductors, but unfortunately they
are few. Some of them (for me) are Claudio Abbado,Loorin Mazeel, etc.
Now,speaking about that trio of" mediocrities",i consider (contrary to
the opinion of somebody)to be conductor of a great orchestra in these
days,shouldn't be a surprise for nobody any name.As i told before:Good
money promise for some managers, good apeal(or "exotical" appeal),some
"strange"and "romantic" context,some non defined sexual preference,racial
preference,etc.etc.could be the "formula" for a succes in these days.

On the other side i don't consider Mutti a mediocre. From my personal point
of view he is a very good conductor.Either i don't consider Baremboim
mediocre(i don't like his conducting, but i think he is far from to be a
mediocre).Unfortunately my feelings toward Ozawa conducting are very
different,and i think an orchestra like BSO,deserves a better conductor,but
not exactly Jeffrey Tate. Regards.
