The Grand Concerto Gastronomique was a Hoffnung piece; while the Fantasy
was written for the Last Night of the Proms during a previous attempt
to make the thing vaguely serious.  As a recall, the Song of Accounting
Periods was a piece of freelance Arnold perversity, not unlike the popular
piece for band & loud, off-key foghorn, The Padstow Lifeboat.

My favorite Arnold Hoffnung piece is The United Nations, for symphony
orchestra & as many nationalistic brass bands as there are entrances to
the hall.  Seems appropriate, especially now.
