It's good to see another list-member mention this very special performance
of the Rite.  It has been one of my favourites for several years (although
in another mail I did not mention it) and does, indeed, give a new insight
into the work.  The tempi are very different - the Danse sacrale is taken
at a speed which approaches frenzy - but are all justified by the
piano-roll version, made under the direction of Stravinsky himself.  It is
strange, then, that Stravinsky in his own recording does not take things at
quite such a breakneck speed.
