Bert says:

Agreeing with Bert, attending a good performance is, to me, an
exhilarating experience. I walk out of the hall on a cloud. However,
one needs recordings in order to be able to listen to music every day!

Similarly, the Kings Park rugby stadium in Durban, for example, turns
a very ordinary rugby game into a wonderful experience, even though
one can see the players better on TV!

I think most of our list members find themselves in close proximity
to no more that one symphony orchestra - yes? That does mean that one
is limited to hearing only the music they perform. My closest symphony
orchestra, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, tends to play a lot of Mozart
and Beethoven, and I cannot bring myself to drive 80km to listen to their
(M & B's) music - with apologies to the fans of these two composers.
This is a problem with live performances - inability to choose what
one would like to listen to.

I don't like recordings of live performances (if you know what I mean),
and I feel cheated when I buy a CD, just to discover that it is a recording
of a live performance - and the fact has not been mentioned anywhere on
the cover. If I am listening to music on a CD, then at least the sound
quality must be perfect.
