Dear CM friends, Of special interest to music lovers in the greater New
York metropolitan region -- " AMERICAN ACCENT ...beyond the premiere "
opens its second season on November 12th at the Kosciuszko Foundation
Recital Hall in Manhattan, with an ear-grabbing program of (mostly)
recent music by (mostly) American composers titled "Cool and Sizzling".

And -- as is customary for the ensemble, co-directed by pianist Joanne
Polk and myself -- we offer a stimulating selection of music written by
both women and men, 50%-50%: Shulamit Ran, George Antheil, Ned Rorem,
Jennifer Higdon.

Our red-hot performers (including the core ensemble: the Lark Quartet and
Joanne) are excited by, and love to play, the music of their own time.

Please be sure to say 'hi!' in person on Monday night --

Details follow::

American Accent Presents First Concert of Second Season "Cool and
   Sizzling" on Monday, November 12

New York, NY - American Accent will present the first concert of its
second season, Cool and Sizzling on Monday, November 12, 2001 - 7:30
PM at The Kosciuszko Foundation Recital Hall, 15 E. 65th St. in
   Manhattan.

Music to be performed will include Shulamit Ran's Private Game for
clarinet and cello, her Hyperbolae for piano, George Antheil's Sonatina
for violin and piano, Ned Rorem's Seconde Sonate for piano and Jennifer
Higdon's Celestial Hymns for violin, viola, cello, clarinet and piano.

Performers for this concert will be American Accent's core ensemble
   - pianist Joanne Polk, clarinetist Alan Kay and the Lark Quartet.

This concert represents a wide range of musical styles. The program
annotator has written of the "volatile, compact contours of (Shulamit)
Ran's dramatic music" and referred to George Antheil's "original
artistic premise". The annotator also writes of the "elegance and
... distinct sonority (of Ned Rorem's) early Seconde Sonate," and
describes the piece as "cosmopolitan and Gallic" and writes that
Jennifer Higdon's "Celestial Hymns presents itself as a spiritual
descendant of Debussy's "Cathedrale engloutie" - at once magnificent,
yet delicate and a bit blurred".

American Accent is a New York City-based performance group dedicated
to world-class performances that present the vitality and enormous
breadth of American chamber music of the 20th Century and beyond.
Their intent is to survey the richness and many personalities of
America's composers, and to present their music in its rightful place,
at center stage. Co-founded by composer Judith Lang Zaimont and
pianist Joanne Polk, American Accent celebrates significant music of
the 20th and 21st centuries, focusing on repeat performances of major
works by primarily American composers of the present moment and recent
past. The core ensemble -- the Lark Quartet, Alan Kay and Joanne Polk
   - are visionary artists passionately connected to the music of their
   own time.

Their May 23, 2002 concert, Romance - Text and Subtext, will feature
music by Bernard Rands, Augusta Read Thomas, Chen Yi, William Bolcom
   and Judith Lang Zaimont.

Tickets for the November 12 concert are $20 each. Senior Citizen and
Student discount tickets are $12 each. For advance reservations,
