They're usually referred to as the Second Viennese School (presumably on
the notion that there was a first, presumably consisting of Mozart, Haydn,
Beethoven and Schubert...)
Yes, they can be told apart when you're used to their music. Berg
particularly has a Romantic streak a mile wide and it's hard to confuse
Webern's pointilliste miniatures with anyone else.
Of course, when Karajan conducts everything tends to sound the same
anyway...:-)
