Those wishing to look at the whole question of which instrument should
be used for the Well-Tempered should take time to listen to Chorzempa's
recording for Philips. He used clavichord, harpsichord, and organ,
basing his choice on with instrument for which prelude and fugue on a
variety of parameters. I should point out, though, that while the idea
is interesting, the execution is not, to my mind, of particular quality.
There are much finer recordings out there - Leonhardt's remains right at
the top of the list and so - despite what other list members have said
in the past - does Angela Hewitt's masterly piano version of Book 1.

Clavichord, harpsichord, piano - who cares. It's all Bach. And that,
ultimately, is what makes this music so unparalleled.
