Music of Judith Lang Zaimont Across The U.S.  - Performances of "From
the Folk" in New York City on April 10 and Minneapolis on April 24

New York, NY - Judith Lang Zaimont's "From the Folk" for flute, oboe,
Bb clarinet and bassoon will be heard in two performances in April.

April 10 at 12:30 PM - The Center for Jewish History, 15 W.  16th Street
in New York City (http://www.cjh.org/).  The work will be performed by
Mannes College of Music students as part of a program of Contemporary
Jewish American Composers.

April 24 at 7:30 PM - Ferguson Hall of the Lloyd Ultan Recital Hall,
2106 Fourth Street South in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The work will be
performed by the School of Music New Music Ensemble of the University

"From the Folk" is a 9-minute work in two movements - I Song and II.
Dance.  It was commissioned by the Hoff-Barthelson School/Copland House
for their Contemporary Music Festival 2004 and premiered in May of that
year.  The composer has written this about the work:

   "Although the melodies and harmonies of this piece are entirely
   original and refer to no distinct source, in these two movements
   I aim to celebrate a kind of music I've always loved -- folk
   music, and emphasize musical aspects generally though of as
   'folk-like'.  The two most distinct and clearest emphases are
   on sweet melody, streaming ahead without undue pressure or
   distortion; and zesty pulse, dancing past continuously in
   lively, extrovert manner."

Judith Lang Zaimont is internationally recognized for her distinctive
style, characterized by its expressive strength and dynamism.  Most
recently she has been Featured Composer for the National Federation of
Music Clubs, Commissioned Composer of the California Music Teachers
Association, Commissioned Composer for the International San Antonio
Piano Competition, and recipient of an Aaron Copland Award.  Her music
is widely performed throughout the U.S.  and Europe and has been recorded
for the Naxos, Koch International Classics, Arabesque, Milken Family
Foundation, Albany, Jeanne, Leonarda, Northeastern, and 4Tay labels.

Ms.  Zaimont was awarded First Prize in the international 1995 McCollin
Competition for Composers (for "Symphony No.  1", performed by the
Philadelphia Orchestra in 1996).  Her biography is found in most standard
