Both Ashkenazy and Lupu were close to making the list. Again, the list was
small and did exclude some top-rate pianists.
Lortie wasn't close. I've heard him in Ravel (excellent) and Beethoven
(not impressed).
I've read of Kuerti but have not heard any of his performances. I doubt
he'd be on many "top" lists.
Up to this point, the only regret I have about my list was not remembering
Hamelin.
