In what's becoming a habit, Vinson Cole is called to the rescue when
James Taylor cancels (still fighting a minor but career-displacing health
problem).  The two tenors share oratorio repertory, if not opera, where
Cole is far more active.  This time, Cole is scheduled the last-minute for
the Oregon Bach Festival's season-ending Verdi Requiem on July 8.

In his festival debut, Cole will be joined by Finnish soprano Camilla
Nylund (who made her US debut in Eugene, and is returning to the stage
after a year's absence following the birth of her first child), Canadian
mezzo Susan Platts, who made a sensational US debut in Oregon three years
ago, at age 25, and Russian bass Michail Schelomianski.  (You can hear his

Festival music director Helmuth Rilling will conduct the Requiem as well
as the season-opening Verdi-organized "Messa per Rossini," on June 22.
