Writes Mimi Ezust:

>Why all the whining? Drury is just one person with one opinion. If the
>show grabbed Ed Zubrow, and grabbed a few more folks that morning, made
>their morning a bit more interesting, gave them a reason to try listening
>to some music they ordinarily would not have tried, opened up their minds
>even just a teeny bit, what is the problem?
>
>Yeesh! Some people are NEVER SATISFIED.

The Connection is oftern very fine - great show on Pushkin today!! And
Chris Lydon has done yeoman work in trying to track the Yugoslav mess. This
program is the one bright spot in a station which has gone from excellent
classical music to being the radio equivalent to a news reel theater
combined with a servile devotion to National Public Radio chit chat.

Now concerning Drury,I found that program interesting . What I did not
appreciate was Drury's provincialism, his agenda in dividing the musical
world into sheep and goats. But Mimi is correct, it is one limited
musician's limited view of the world.

What I don't understand, Mimi, is your objection that anyone DARE
criticize the program . That is a healthy and predictable response to Mr.
Drury's approach, or anyone else's for that matter. What is the virtue of
blandness?
