Karl wrote about the Brahms cadenzas for the Beethoven 4th. Is there a
recording that uses these cadenzas?

I have a tape of the same concerto with the Dohnanyi cadenzas which
sounds similar to what Karl describes about the cadenzas sounding less
like Beethoven.

My tape is obviously from the horse's mouth, since Dohnanyi is conducting
and one of his students is playing. I actually went to the concert and
was able later to tape it form the radio rebroadcast.

Any more interesting cadenza info?

And - Isn't composing vanity anyway? Aren't composers insisting that
they have something to say in a particular genre that hasn't been said
or said as well as they can say it?
