I agree it is up to the listener to decide...I am concerned when musicians
allow their music to be presented in such a way which encourages passive
consumption.  I am also concerned at the way some sell music.  Perhaps
I should have used the word "hope" instead of "expect."

I guess what I meant, is it possible for classical music to survive if
its presentation and marketing were based upon an approach other than
that which is "soothing."

And, of course, I have expectations of you...and, based upon your writing,
you listen, hence I have come to expect an informed perspective when you
write about music.  Yet as a musician, I would "hope" that my audience
is listening...
