Hi All,

I'm sure I'm not the only one on this list who is a fan of Lorraine Hunt
Lieberson and her recordings as well as deeply saddened by her tragically
young death. I just thought I'd share her most recent disc which actually
isn't recent but a recital at Wigmore Hall from 1998. She sings the
Mahler Five Ruckert Lieder, some Handel, some Lieberson Rilke Songs and
two encores all accompanied by RogerVignoles on piano. The Mahler is
particularly beautiful and Ich Bin der Welt abhanden gekommen is just
heartbreaking. This is a really exquisite disc with Lieberson in her
prime and I highly reccomend it.

I have the Handel aria disc on Avie, the Bach cantata disc on Nonesuch,
and the recital disc. Any suggestions for opera, oratorio, or recital
recordings with her would be appreciated- I simply can't get enough of
her beautiful, deep, dark and rich voice.

PS A desert island disc IMO is the new Jordi Savall Marin Marais fourth
book of viol pieces titled Suite d'un Gout Etranger. It's just superb
and again IMO was worth him redoing the Astree recording plus this time
it's complete.

All the best,

Peter Herwitz
