Apropos of the previous post, can someone tell me why *most* of the
performances I have heard over the last 20 years put most of the theme
introductions in the first movement on the 4ft or even 2ft stops?  I
recall the cmaj concerto as played in my youth as strong, even gigantic.
Now it seems to be played on a piccolo, with a wholly ludicrous effect--
much the same as if the Bach Dorian toccata opened on a 4ft stop.
