Bob Kasenchak wanted to know:

>When you Bruckner-philes buy a Bruckner symhpony, is it terribly
>important to you to know which version/edition/revision it is?
>Schwann does not normally note such things.

I think it's worth the trouble. I've just bought the Naxos version of
Bruckner's 8th, simply because a post drew my attention to the fact that
it's a rarely-recorded version. Unless I'd carefully studied the actual CD
in a shop, I probably wouldn't have known otherwise. I remember years ago,
the Gramophone catalogue used to even tell you which cadenzas were used in
Mozart piano concertos, but perhaps that's going a bit far.

If I may drop a gentle hint, Bob, I certainly wouldn't have found out from
Schwann, even if the information was there. Buying a copy in Australia is
all but impossible.
