A few weeks ago I tried out Markevitch's music on the Naxos disc that
features it. I think that he was much better as a conductor than as a
composer--his music reminds me of Prokofiev without the latter's pizzazz.

I like most of the recordings that IM has conducted--I would recommend his
Tchaikovsky 1, Debussy LaMer, and Roussel Bacchus et Arianne 2 to anyone.
