Scott Morrison wrote of the Chicago Lyric Opera's need for males:

I did a double-take when I read the weekly amount of compensation.  That's
a paltry sum which hardly keeps a person out of poverty.  AND, they want
the guys to know how to count also - that's asking quite a lot in this day
and age.

The guys hired won't need health and pension benefits as much as a
supplemental income.  Are these pay levels common?
