No, no, I am not objecting that anyone "dare" criticise the program.
I am just amused. People whine that there is "dumbing down" on NPR,
classical music is shrinking everywhere we look, and we play "ain't it
awful," but when Ed Zubrow heard the show and was inspired to make some
positive comments, all of a sudden people who may not even have HEARD the
program were right there with criticism of it, only on the strength of
reading the name "Drury." Pavlov rang a bell, maybe?

I don't say that Drury's approach OR every Lydon show is untouchable
perfection. But I am very happy that a show like Lydon's has gained such
popularity. The criticism I objected to seemed to have nothing to do with
the points made on the program as described by Ed.

Of course I am in favor of an exchange of ideas (or I wouldn't have
bothered joining the discussion here in the first place). I enjoy reading
opinion and criticism. But don't you all see the irony? We moan that there
is little support for the arts, and then we complain about the shows on the
radio that are doing their darndest to support the arts and make them more
alive and meaningful. Does this make any sense?

And now I shall withdraw from this conversation since I have said twice
what I only needed to have said once.

And Don Satz, I am sorry I assumed that you were people like us. Please
forgive me. You do not ever have to listen to a single show about poetry
for the rest of your life. It doesn't mean you are not a nice person.
