Clarinetist Michael Norsworthy Featured in Manhattan Sinfonietta
Concerts in New York on February 18 and Boston on February 21

Clarinetist Michael Norsworthy will be featured in concerts titled The
New Soloist, presented by the Manhattan Sinfonietta, with Music Director
Jeffrey Milarsky, on Wednesday, February 18 at Merkin Concert Hall, 129
West 67th St.  in Manhattan and on Saturday, February 21 at John Knowles
Paine Concert Hall on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge,
Massachusetts.  The Sinfonietta will also present programs on Tuesday,
February 17 at Merkin Hall and Friday, February 20 at Harvard.  The two
programs at Paine Concert Hall are part of the Fromm Players series.
All four concerts begin at 8 PM.

For the February 18 and 21 programs, Mr. Norsworthy will perform Donald
Martino's Triple Concerto for clarinet, bass and contrabass clarinets,
with fellow clarinetists Gilad Harel and Bohdan Hilash.  Other repertoire
on the program includes music by Lei Liang, Ivan Fedele, Philippe Leroux
and Bob Hasegawa.

The February 17 and 20 concerts will feature works by Hitomi Kaneko,
Galina Ustvolskaya, David Gompper, Arthur Kampela, Marcos Balter and
Luciano Berio.

Over the course of two programs, the musicians of the Manhattan
Sinfonietta will explore the multiple and often contradictory roles
of the soloist as an individual and within the setting of a larger

A dedicated and persuasive champion of the music of our own time, Michael
Norsworthy has given premieres of over 80 works in collaboration with
composers Harrison Birtwistle, Elliott Carter, Chris Dench, Pozzi Escot,
Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Finnissy, Lukas Foss, Hans Werner Henze,
Magnus Lindberg, Ralph Shapey and Marc Anthony Turnage, among others.

As soloist, Michael Norsworthy has performed an extensive repertoire of
concerti, ranging from Mozart to Ferneyhough, with the Aspen Contemporary
Ensemble, Callithumpian Consort, NEC Contemporary Ensemble, Pottstown
Symphony, Soria Chamber Players, Southern Illinois Symphony and Symphony
Pro Musica, while audiences have heard his numerous recitals in New York,
Boston, Cambridge, Chicago and St.  Louis.  Conductors he has worked
with include Boulez, DePriest, Knussen, Levine, Muti, Robertson, Ozawa,
Tilson Thomas and many others.  Michael Norsworthy plays on Buffet
Clarinets and mouthpieces by Kalmen Opperman.
