Bob Kasenchak wrote of Liapunov's symphonic poem "Hashish":

>And I know I've catalogued it before, so it's been released in the past 2-3
>years. And I STILL can't find it. It's probably on a collections disc.
>I'd be curious to have a listen. Has anybody heard this work? Or know
>where to find it?

My trusty Gramophone Classical Catalogue (1996) shows that Svetlanov
recorded it with the USSR Academy Symphony Orchestra; date of Gramophone
review 7/89. It was available on Olympia OCD129 as part of a concert
featuring 4 of L's works and an orchestration of Balakirev's Islamey.

That doesn't make it in the last 2 or 3 years, however, as Bob recalls.

Regards,

[Here's the info from the all-Liapunov recording I have:

Overture "Solemn" on Russian Themes in C Major Op. 7 (1896)
Symphonic Poem "Zelazowa Wola" in Memory of Chopin in B minor Op. 37 (1910)
Symphonic Poem "Hashish" in B Flat minor Op. 53 (1914)
     USSR State Academy Orchestra/Evgeni Svetlanov
   MCA - Melodiya MLD-32105 1984 54:24

This is most probably the same recording Olympia licensed from Melodiya
mentioned by Bill above, which I have never seen, but it was played
by Wisconsin Public Radio last year (July 20, 1998). -Dave]
