I've long been a fan of Perlman, the man as well as the musician but
this is seriously odd:

http://southfloridaclassicalreview.com/2009/01/perlman-scolds-cajoles-and-charms-kravis-audience/

According to this, he played Messiaen in South Florida to tepid applause
and lectured the audience for not appreciating the piece. Which he then
played again.

So, applause is now required?

Why would any audience put up with this kind of patronizing?
