You weren't satisfied, but then you were?  If the accuracy had nothing
to do with it, what was it then?  Musn't it be a good idea to enter into
the spirit of what the composer had in mind?  I am grateful for HIP;
my favorite set of Brandenbergs is still the Collegium Aureum (once on
Nonesuch), and nothing can surpass the Bach violin concerti by Concentus
Musicus Wein/ Harnoncourt...

But having said that, there are obviously going to be great and
not-so-great HIP performances.  And the first Vivaldi/Four Seasons I
ever heard was conducted by Guido Cantelli with the NY Phil on a Columbia
LP (as incorrect as you can get) and I'm still looking for that on CD.
It was full of love and beauty.
