i am so jealous! i heard wonderful things about that concert...i have
always been a big fan of haitink, having seen him conduct live many times,
including the ones where he coaxed out sounds members of the boston
symphony couldn't even dream up in their sleep. very impressive.

however, what is the general consensus on his recordings?

regarding berlin, let no one mistake that they make _bad_
recordings....their latest recording of the dvorak symphonies is a
masterpiece of artistic taste and technical laser precision. but having
heard them perform the verdi requiem in paris a few years ago under abbado,
i most concur that the strings live are something truly awe-inspiring. i'm
convinced that al berliner string players go straight to heaven.
