Steven Schwartz writes:

Arch de Silva asks:

>What is a cyclic principle?

The principle is to make a stronger connection between different movements,
usually by letting one or several themes appear in all (or more than one)
movements.

The principal themes from the 1st and 2nd movement also appear in the 3rd
in the Franck symphony. Other famous cyclic symphonies are Beethoven #5
and #9, Tchaikovsky #5 and Dvorak#9.
