Slightly at a tangent, but you might consider some of the music of
British early twentieth century composer John Herbert Foulds. His second
wife was a Theosophist and something of an expert in Greek and Eastern
music in general. Foulds, influenced by this, wrote some excellent late
Romantic/early Modernist pieces influenced by the Dorian modes: especially
the Essays in the Modes for piano (of which seven have been recorded, I
believe on Altarus), the orchestral suite 'Hellas' and several other pieces
involving microtones as well as Dorian modes.

Problem is, there are only about four or five CDs of his music published!

Oh well!
