Although I don't like PZ's anachronistic readings of baroque work, and
especially of Mozart, I often find a kind of internal, if strange, logic
in them. Granted, he doesn't play with the consistency one might expect
from someone of his reputation, but when he's "on", he's very on indeed.
Shortly before he headed of with NACO for the tour, he did a Haydn violin
concerto. It absolutely riveting and his playing was as close to perfect
as you'll ever hear in this world.

As someone who hears almost all of the NACO's Ottawa concerts -- I've been
reviewing them for years now -- I have to give PZ something of a nod. The
orchestra has developed a more consistently high quality of sound under his
direction than I've heard from the in the past. I'd actually be interested
to hear from other list members who may hear a NACO tour concert. I'd be
very interested in how people are finding it.
