For the German lyrics, a favorite of mine is the Kubelik with the Bavarian
Radio Orchestra/Chorus, on DG. It's not exhaustively complete, but seems
to have all the substantial musical numbers in it. I like the sound of the
ladies chorus, as well as soprano soloist Edith Mathis (who I keep thinking
might have been his wife, can someone confirm/correct this?). The alto
soloist suffers from swallowing all of her words before she gets them out,
but I guess you can't have everything! Anyway, my recommendation.
