Dave Lampson adds an aside to my footnote on the Haffner repeats:

>[I like Mozart, and I like the Haffner serenade, so I actually look forward
>to listening to all of it. -Dave]

I also like Mozart, and I also like the Haffner Serenade.

Indeed I like it so much that I'm prepared to respect the "occasional"
nature of the circumstances for which Mozart wrote it - or at least
cobbled it together.

The repeats are of course only there for the practical reason that more
(or less) music might be needed according to the circumstances of the
party. Some of them at least are there just as a safety net.

There's therefore no sensible reason, however reverently intended, to
inflate the piece to Wagnerian proportions by slavishly including them all
in performance, except possibly at summer garden parties to accompany the
evening croquet.

Christopher Webber, Blackheath, London, UK.
