I've raved about the conductor Robert King who records for Hyperion, but
he hasn't garnered very much press. So, I was very pleased to see King on
the October cover of Gramophone. I wasn't aware of this, but King has made
over 80 recordings for Hyperion. And, he plans to start recording
Mendelssohn, Haydn, and Mozart.

Gramophone interviewed King, and I'd like to share with you two of his
comments:

"The first time I heard a baroque violin it just seemed so utterly
right for Handel and Bach where the modern violin never had.

My exact feelings.

"I don't believe you can be authentic. The word isn't in my vocabulary.
It is terribly arrogant to think you can mimic original conditions
i an age so vastly different from, say, Handel's."

King sure sounds like a guy to be suspicious of. I have not provided my
basic view of the "suspicions" some of you have concerning HIP matters,
but I will now - They're baseless.
