I think Richard Pennycuick is being just a little bit unfair in comparing
the Naxos historical reissues with the immaculate Abbey Road technology
which has, under the Testament contract with EMI, to be brought to bear
on the EMI material issued under the Testament label. The amount of work
involved is very considerable and, on occasions, involves having to deal
with storage problems which have caused pre-echo and other difficulties
arising from print-through.

Much of the Naxos material stems, does it not, from broadcasts (nothing
wrong with that, and that's not part of the issue here) but I wonder if
anyone really knows where the actual "originals" are held? And have there
not been pitch problems which have not always been satisfactorily resolved?

I'm afraid to say that selling twice as much at half the price does not
produce the same result by any means although I'd rather not sit down and
have to work it out again. Time was when I used to have to do that kind
of calculation, rather like Ted Perry et al, on the back of an envelope!
