Maybe not so "contemporary" any longer, but the two Piston Violin Concertos
played magnificently by James Buswell is a most interesting recording.
(Gee I feel old.  I remember seeing him perform on TV with Lennie, when
Buswell was only a child.) It's a Naxos CD.  Gramophone guru Ivan March
picked this as one of his Records of the Year (and this from a Brit!).
Great music, ditto for orchestral contributions and sound.
