A while ago, I asked the list for information on any cello pieces by Robert
Volkmann for a possible recording by cellist Nancy Green. Having obtained
a copy of Volkmann's biography in the meantime, I am now able to answer my
own question: including the Romance, op. 7, whose existence was pointed
out by Eric Schissel, the list of Volkmann's chamber music for cello is
(aside from being too short)

Romance for Cello and Piano in E, op. 7
Chant du Troubadour, op. 10 (in versions for violin/piano and cello/piano)
Capriccio for Cello and Piano, op. 74

I have been able to get hold of a copy of the Romance. However, searches
at several major libraries have not yet produced any trace of the
Troubadour and Capriccio. A query for an interlibrary loan has likewise
been unsuccessful. I also contacted the original publishers of these two
pieces, Kistner, but it seems that their Leipzig archive was destroyed in
WWII.

Thus my question: Could anyone provide any assistance or information in
locating these two scores? For a while, Volkmann enjoyed some fame across
Europe, so we are building our hopes on the possibility that some library
may still hold copies of the Troubadour and Capriccio. Any help and any
hints where they might be found would be greatly appreciated.

I am also pleased to announce that, if everything goes according to plan,
Nancy Green will perform the Volkmann cello concerto in Tucson and Sun City
in the spring of 2002. We are trying to contact the Budapest conservatory
for the orchestra parts (hoping to avoid edited versions like the Mainardi
one). But if anyone happens to know another source closer to home, any
comments on that would also be most welcome.

Thanks in advance.
