Deriding John Wayne is a badge of sophistication in certain circles, but
on reading the tribute to Marlene Dietrich in Sunday's NY TImes, I had to
chuckle when on the list of distinguished people with whom Ms. Dietrich
had an affair in her lifetime was John Wayne.

Incidentally, songs in Dietrich and Wayne's first film together, "Seven
Sinners," were written by London-born composer Friedrich Hollaender, a one
time Berlin cabaret owner and composer of many popular cabaret songs. A
HELICON CD, "Songs of the Berlin Cabaret 1920-1929" includes some of his
best, but not "Falling in Love Again" perhaps his most famous, sung by
Dietrich in "The Blue Angel."
