Wilson Pereira <[log in to unmask]> tells of receiving a tape of
this Rosenkavalier (Salzburg 1960) from a Mr. Brian Pinder. This, sadly,
was the only response to my query. The 'pirate' CDs must have come and
gone at the speed of light for indeed recording(s) do exist and one would
assume there was some interest. Perhaps lawyers got to them!

The sound on Paul Czinner's film (made that summer for the Rank
Organisation) was not good at all and in VHS format it would have suffered
anyway from the poor sound of that format. The film, though, had
Schwarzkopf instead of della Casa. Did the film never make it to an LD
issue in the USA?

Like Mr.Pinder I was there too, but on 13th August. As more and more
material from the archives of the ORF reach the market one may hope that
this may appear one day via the DG Salzburg series.

There are two Karajan recordings of Trovatore (DG/Salzburg & BMG/Vienna)
and both, with wonderful casts, are truly sensational and should be
acquired before it is too late. The sheer thrill of the live performances
are captured in both these sets as no studio recording can; HvK's
magnificent studio Trovatore with Callas on EMI is about as thrilling as
it was ever going to get before these two broadcast versions appeared.
