A Symphonie Concertante is an orchestral concerto highlighting two or
more solo instruments. I think the form originated in the J.C. Bach time
period and has endured up to present day. In the J.C. Bach series on CPO,
a few concertante cd's have have been issued; they contain some delightful
music, and the concertante element does enhance the variety of the music.
