Richard Goode has a long and warm relationship with Kansas City audiences.
The city was the site of his first complete traversal of the Beethoven
sonatas and he has been a frequent recitalist here.  From this morning's

   Pianist Goode Cancels Friends Recital

   Pianist Richard Goode has canceled his March 31 recital at the Folly
   Theater in Kansas City, citing symptoms of tendinitis.

   The performance, on the Friends of Chamber Music's Great Pianists
   series, was to be his first solo recital since August 1998.

   It is the second straight season that the condition forced Goode to
   withdraw from the series.  "Friends of Chamber Music has always made
   me feel so welcome," the pianist wrote in a statement prepared for
   Friends ticketholders.  "I am slowly recovering from a long bout of
   tendinitis and look forward very much to the prospect of returning
   as soon as possible."

   Last weekend Goode, 56, played Mozart's 17th Piano Concerto with the
   St. Louis Symphony, but after Saturday's performance Goode determined
   that he was not ready for the greater demands of a solo recital, said
   Friends artistic director Cynthia Siebert.

   Siebert said subscribers would be offered the choice of donating
   their tickets, receiving a full refund or exchanging tickets for
   an April 14 concert by the Borromeo String Quartet.
