I'm a pianist, part self-trained, part classically trained, and multi-genre
influenced. This means that I know a lot of classical pieces, but I try to
incorporate music from every other genre in my repertoire. I play a lot of
gospel and jazz and I can improvise nicely. I can take a hymn and jazz it
up by adding every kind of altered chord, arpeggio, trill, roll and turn
in the book; but I feel burned out. I feel like I've touched on a lot of
things like the right technique for playing chords and scales, but I feel
like something is missing. I'm going through a dry spell. What is a
musician supposed to do when he or she is burned out?
