I don't consider myself a purist, but it's easy to understand their view
- don't subtract or add to what the composer wrote down.

I have no idea what Bruckner wanted.  Given that he was a confused
puppy when it came to revisions and manipulations of his compositions,
he might not have known what he wanted either.  Composers who are unsure
of themselves can be at the mercy of others who want some fame but can't
get it through their own creative devices.
