I would say Kuhlau is, as some other Danes too, a good orchestrator,
and some of the orchestral bonus you will miss when you take up his
pianoworks.  If you have not heard it yet, I would recommend to you his
ballet "Elverhoej".  (As much as I know of Danish it means "Elf Kings
Daughter").  I think it is in works of this type Kuhlau succdeds best.
Also look for the flute sonatas.
